Whistler Wedding Photography | Dig deeper, aim higher
Let’s raise the bar up shall we?
I have been trying to buy in, trying to truly believe that this is what my couples want in their photography.
Details, Details, Details.
That’s what you would have to believe if you spend enough time looking at the wedding blogs these days. Don’t get me wrong, I love my details. They help each of my brides express their own story and brings their final touches to their vision. I am right there eager to photograph them to help tell their story, plus they are lots of fun.
I do think however that my job, my real purpose as a photographer, as a storyteller is to dig deeper, to aim higher. Don’t just capture the pretty; capture the real, the raw, the emotion, the connection. To me there is nothing more rewarding (scary) to photograph than real emotions. It’s not for everyone and you can’t get there if you haven’t earned your couple’s trust. I would love to see more of that showcase in publications.
There is nothing sexier then a groom tearing up seeing his bride for the first time. The trust in having me photograph a couple remembering a parent gone too soon. The touch, the look of a grand parent or the spontaneous laughter between friends on a wedding day.
Let’s keep the “pretty” but let’s raise the bar to include more of the real.

Whistler Wedding Photography | Rehearsal Dinner | Janice & Pat
When you have family members flying in for your wedding celebration from all over the country or even over seas it’s bound to be a great gathering.
When Janice & Pat approach me to capture their friends and family in the relax setting of the rehearsal dinner hosted by Pat’s parent’s in a private property in Whistler, I thought to myself, perfect setting to break the ice!
It was casual & fun and a great way to quickly have everyone get comfortable with having me around. We quickly realized that it also gave the perfect excuse to capture some great moments of the children, the grand parents, friends and their growing families and great friendships. It was Janice’s way of making sure everyone would have great photographs of themselves and their loved ones. Not to mention that I was able to steal the couple away for a few minutes for some romance before their big day!
Needless to say that on the wedding day no one was hidding from me and the comfort level and trust had already been establish. But we will treat you to THOSE images in a future post!
Enjoy,

Squamish Wedding Photographer | E-Session | Julie & Mike
When Julie and Mike told me that they wanted to do their E-Session in Squamish, I was so excited. Most of the time I am either in Whistler or Vancouver for engagement sessions. It was such a treat to be able to showcase some of Squamish beauty with such a sweet couple.

Squamish Family Photographer | Fall walk with the pups
Aliesha has been a longtime client of mine, we found a friendship somewhere in the middle of her wedding planning, her strong animal right support and adventures and her growing passion for photography. So needless to say when she called me to photograph her family, I had a really good idea of what style and ideas we both shared. What I didn’t realize was that as much as I though I was the biggest animal lover, she is in a different league with a giant heart.
As we took the dogs out for a walk, I began to learn the touching story of the different family members (cats and dogs) and I tell you, I don’t know if I have ever seen such an eclectic group living happily together. I loved every minute of it.
I asked her to describe each one of them, this is what she wrote me:
“What a beautiful day we had. We really lucked out with the weather. The dogs seemed better behaved than I thought they would be.
You asked for the spelling of all their names. The orange cat is Kolbassa, my Fairview cat, a complete attention hound. Autolycus is the grey and white cat, a bottle baby with a strange personality. I don’t think he knows he is a cat. They do not get along very well, Autolycus is always chasing Kolbassa around the house, though Kolbassa is the boss at meal times.
Molly is the little blonde dog. She is afraid of the cats and is a complete momma’s girl. Zelgadis is the chocolate lab. He is the one who is allergic to the cats and everything else. Poor guy has had several health issues all his life. Samwise it the golden coloured male dog. He is the sensitive boy in the group, well named as he is hobbit like in every way. He thinks with his stomach, but is loyal and friendly. “Samwise the Brave”
Thank you for your trust Aliesha once more.

Whistler Family Photographer | Children | Top 5 Smiles
It’s a smiling kind of day today, don’t you think? A great end of Summer blending into Fall. An exciting Winter ahead filled with anticipation of a great snow year. All of it just makes me want to smile. On my work desk, I have a little quote a day calendar (yes I do and I love it!) and yesterday’s quote was as follow;
“Laugh out loud
A great way to boost happiness: Laugh out loud. A typical young child laughs more then 400 times a day, a typical adult, 15 times. Laughter is healthy; It lowers blood pressure and cortisol levels and boots immunity. It strengthens social bonds and helps ease difficult situations. And it’s fun. Make an effort and laugh out loud.”
So here for no other reason than that, here is a random top 5 best children smiles captured!

Whistler Wedding Photographer | E-Session | Tell a story in BW
What’s so special about an E-Session (engagement photo session)? In my opinion it’s a chance (if it’s well done ) to tell your story, to have a reflection of what you love and who you love in your everyday life. I love finding out the little things about my couples, what makes them laugh, what they do when they have a moment to themselves, what they wish they did more of. This starts shaping my vision of how I can help them claim a moment just for the two of them and find a backdrops that will enhance their story and create a timeless moment.
Here are a few stories…
Whistler Wedding Photographer | The Edgewater Lodge | Ellie & Kirk
There is a certain grace about Ellie that I just love. A down to earth girl (with style) who looks after her second love Macy, her beloved horse (I think Kirk made his way to the top by the time the wedding took place!) Our connection came with such ease. I remember meeting Ellie and Kirk over coffee and I think the actual wedding talk lasted about 5 minutes and then we surprised ourselves by how fast we started talking about life, love and all it’s beauty. I tell you I just love meeting couples, it always make me discover new things, new habits and great core values.
So we connected, we did one of my sexiest/romantic E-Session to date. From that moment on, I knew I was in for a treat for their wedding day. It was elegant, yet casual. Romantic with the proper dose of steam! And all of it surrounded by their closest friends and family at the ever so gorgeous Edgewater Lodge. Thank you Ellie & Kirk for making me a part of your wonderful celebration and for your kind friendship.

Whistler Family Photographer | Children | Best B&W
There is something timeless about a black and white image that just makes you smile. Make it about children and it becomes an instant classic…!!!
Some parents may not be so proud (see first image) but they are timeless moments nonetheless!
Whistler Wedding Photographer | Top 10 E-Session moments
So what do you think when we say E-Session aka Engagement Session?
Well we think sexy, steamy, romantic, intimate, beautiful, unique, celebration and of course love. E-Sessions have come a long way from the stiff formal look that was required to send out an announcement. These days what I love about them is the perfect timing for an excuse to take a moment for yourself. In the planning and the real life fast pace, it,s a moment to pause, to just be and celebrate you! A chance to get comfy with the lens and to bring your own unique feel to the session.
Here are our top 10 from this past year;
#10 Keeping it fun, relax and playful where the smiles tell it all.

#9 Be part of the scenic beauty that surrounds us.

#8 A little Urban fun and a funky sign.

#7 After a while you forget I’m there and you just indulge in a quiet moment (Those are the best!)

#6 What can I say, a BW classic with Miss Macy (The Horse) feeling like she might be intruding.

#5 Bringing your own style and hobbies makes all the difference

#4 I did say steamy sexy love right?

#3 Bring in your personality with a little colour accent or a whole wall!

#2 Sunny afternoon, the wind blowing and a moment captured.

#1 Now nothing says sexy romantic more then a sunset, open barn and a warm blanket.

Which one is your favourite?

Vancouver Photographer | Photography Class | Part 2
The Feedback from our last “Stuck in Automatic Class” has been fantastic.
The light has been ignited for many and it is such a great feeling to be able to share this passion I have.
I know that all my ladies from our class are paying close attention to their metering system with a guaranteed smile as I so well referred to the metering system in our camera constantly searching for that perfect shade of grey! You guest it, completely opened up the trap for myself to fall right into while making all the ladies in the class turn bright red, myself included.
Never a dull moment in class even while talking about metering system…who knew!
