Whistler Wedding Photographer | Hilton Hotel | Joanna & Dave

If you follow our blog, you’ll have just enjoyed Joanna and Dave’s E-Session. I’m so happy now to finally be able to share their wedding day photos. It was such a fun day and their little girl was so precious.

Thank you for letting me be a part of such an important day. Congratulations to you and your growing family.

Be sure to read some wise words from Joanna below!

How did he propose?

Dave proposed on Valentine’s Day on top of the STORY BRIDGE in Brisbane whislt I was 14 weeks pregnant. We were featured in the 7 oclock news as a Valentines Special. Ever since I moved to Australia we knew we never wanted to be apart.

How did Whistler become your number one choice of where to tie the knot?

We first met in Whistler and really liked the area. We also needed an excuse to get his family and friends over to experience Whistler and the Canadian snow/ mountains. What better way to get them over! We also wanted a wedding that was different than a beach wedding everyone does here in Australia.

What was your criteria when looking for your dress and how did you know once you found it?

I had a budget. I wanted something nice but simple because I was planning on wearing a cape. I didn’t really know that I wanted that particular dress- but loved it once all the pieces were together.

What was the number one piece of advice given to you while planning your wedding and what would you pass on to newly engaged brides to help them in the coming months?

Keep the guest list small, you don’t want to spend your day talking to everyone and feeling pressured that you need to make the rounds. A larger guest list doesn’t mean you will have a better time. It’s the quickest day in your life so make sure there is plenty of time for everything and time to reflect, relax and enjoy every moment. Time is key…

Whistler Wedding Photographer | E-Session | Joanna & Dave

Mom’s. You can always count on them. No matter the task.

Joanna’s mom was no different. Joanna and Dave live in Australia and are being married in Whistler. Joanna’s mom, being local, was given the task to help with the planning and vendor decisions. Nothing quite like a mom’s devotion!

E-Sessions are always such a great way to know the couple and this session was no different. Their little girl Ella was such an important part of it….and well, kind of stole the show! Can’t wait to see how she steals the show on the big day!

Whistler Wedding Photographer | Whistler | Miwah & Jonathan | Part 2

How did he propose and what made you say yes?

He proposed to me at sunrise on a cliff edge that overlooked the Sydney harbour.  It was a place where I usually go do yoga or meditate by myself at sunrise before big competitions I may have coming up.  He said we were going for a morning power walk with our two little pups Missy and Malty at 6am after only coming home from work at 3am that day.  I thought he was really needing to let off some steam so agreed to go walking with him though I had only gone to sleep at 3am.  When he proposed at Sunrise I was completely surprised as for what made me say yes? There was definitely never going to be a no to the love of my life.

How did Whistler become your number one choice of where to tie the knot?

We originally planned to hire a castle in Southern France and hold our wedding there in the winter as we really wanted something magical with a snow setting – seeing we both didn’t really like the heat.  Living in Sydney with 40 degrees celsius summer days getting away from the heat was on our list of wants for our wedding.  Everything was actually lined up for France however due to some issues with family members not being able to get to France we had to change our plans and go back to the think box. With it being November already and our planned wedding to be held in January this was really leaving it to the last minute.  So my partner and I got out notebooks and both wrote a list of what we wanted our wedding day to be and what were our three top must haves.  Then we jumped on the net to do some research and look at possible other locations Calgary – Canada, South Island in New Zealand, Norway then we found Whistler- Canada.  I had been there previously and the words I had always used to describe it was “Santa’s magical wonderland” also the fact it had the Inukshuk as it’s symbol suited us to a T seeing we were best friends who had come together after 10 years.

The poem on our invite was:

It’s been 10 years from the start,
We share one soul, we share one heart,
Today I marry my best friend,

Our bond complete, it has no end,
With these rings we share together,
Love so close to last forever.

Whistler Wedding Photographer | Whistler Mountain | Miwah & Jonathan

It was an early morning and it was a perfect one. Preparing to be at the top of the mountain at 8:15am takes dedication for some who are just going up for a day of skiing. For Miwah, it was the time to be awake, ready and waiting to meet her groom at the end of the aisle outside Mountain top. Stay tuned for the next post that includes Miwah’s words on their love story and her wise words to future brides.

Whistler Family Photographer | The Gadbois’

I had a tall order that went something like this:

  1. A daughter who enjoyed skiing.
  2. Healthy parents that still skied when said daughter was old enough to hold an edge.
  3. A gorgeous sunny day.
  4. Epic snow conditions.

Somehow with the stars aligning my tall order came true and I have been able to check this one off my list of wishes. The day was perfect. A little playtime, some rehydration with snow licking, an energy boost with m&m’s, blue skies and memories that will be as vivid a decade from now as they are today. I guess mom’s and dad’s will always have a knack for making dreams come true…I can only hope to do the same for my little girl.

Whistler Wedding Photographer | Nita Lake Lodge | Camille & Greg

I love winter weddings in Whistler. The love and warmth flowing from the couple and guests is always so overwhelming that they somehow make you feel warm.

Camille and Greg, married at Nita Lake Lodge were just that couple. A very intimate gathering with a gorgeous sit down dinner. It was a fun-filled, relaxed evening with many shared memories and stories. Some of which can not be repeated here! After dinner, the guests were invited into the Library to test their hand at some gambling. As of the close of the evening with some poker chips skittering across the table, it was yet to be seen who had the true grit to come out on top. But I guess in the end, we all know who got the winning hand.

Looking for some advice straight from someone who’s been through it all from your shoes? Check out Camille’s story below.

How did he propose and what made you say yes?
We were seadooing and he pretended the machine was broken so he had to go in the water to fix. Came up with a ring!! Very romantic. I was so afraid I would drop the ring I couldn’t get it on my finger fast enough. In fact I put it on the wrong hand! Why yes? – we fit together. He’s a wonderful person and we gel.

How did Whistler become your number one choice of where to tie the knot?
That’s a bit of a long story. First we were going to Colorado – too expensive. Then somewhere warm like Florida, however with my niece due at the beginning of February we had to eliminate travel options for my sister in law. Thus Whistler as they have a place there and my brother was married there a few years before. Very beautiful.

What was your criteria when looking for your dress and how did you know once you found it?
It was my moms. Didn’t even need any alterations!

Describe your design elements and the inspiration behind them.
I wanted winter white to fit the locale. The red roses were because my dad, who passed away a few years ago, loved red roses. We also added a feather into each of the families flowers to bring my dad into the celebration.

What was the number one piece of advice given to you while planning your wedding?
Keep an open mind… and plan ahead. In hindsight I would recommend a wedding planner on the wedding day. Too many things to remember and enjoy!

Whistler Wedding Photographer | Whistler Blackcomb | Joanna & Phillip

This was one of those days when you wake up and realize how lucky you are. A private wedding on the slopes on a beautiful snowy day. The commissioner, a guide and myself serving as photographer and witness.

A couple of turns, a few photos, a couple more turns, a few more photos, a few more turns and … oh hang on, Phillip, hang on to Joanna … she’s slipping into the trees!

What can I say other than pure heaven!

Whistler Wedding Photography | Whistler Blackcomb | Melanie & Jean Francois

This wedding day was so much fun because it was just so Whistler. An intimate gathering of family only, a ceremony in the P2P Gondola, followed by a good play in the snow. Read their story below and what their advice is to other bride’s:

How did he propose?

In a car in front of Piggy’s Mart. I think I said yes, but in my head was thinking OMG I’m being proposed to in front of a giant flashing pig.

How did Whistler become your number one choice of where to tie the knot?

We both love Whistler for mountain biking. Jean Francois had never experienced winter in Whistler, I had been for the Olympics in 2010. We wanted a ski destination and our families with us and couldn’t think of a more magical place to be for the holidays and our big day!

What was your criteria when looking for your dress and how did you know once you found it?

It had to be warm and stylish and ideally white to go with my flashy green pants. I had seen this coat at the Copenhagen airport and loved it!  That’s when we discovered the Peak Performance brand. We were thrilled to find one of their stores in Whistler and the jacket I had seen overseas. It was meant to be.

Describe your design elements and the inspiration behind them.

Mother nature – we simply couldn’t have dreamed up a better designer.

What was the number one piece of advice given to you while planning your wedding and what would you pass on to newly engaged brides to help them in the coming months?

Keep it real.
