In Part 1, we showed you a little bit…
Time to show you the best part of Dana & Derek’s wedding day…their love for each other. As we took a walk away from their guest, it was apparent to me that our time together was going to be one that I would remember.
My world shook when they shared with me the news of Derek’s father tragic passing only a few months before their wedding date.
I had already captured their Engagement Session, we were in the final details of wedding planning, we had a relationship, we had a bond. With this news, I was lost, I was sad, I was angry. I couldn’t even imagine how one starts to cope with this kind of tragedy, I would collapse. I tried to understand, make sense of how I was to be a part of a family’s most tragic moment and yet just a few months later happiest moment, how could I possibly ask of them to just be happy for the sake of good photos.
What they taught me, I will keep with me forever.
With their trust and open heart, they allowed me to witness their commitment to love in the hard times and the goods. Together they showed me how to support one and other, that it was ok to cry but it was also good to smile. How to honour and respect someone and how to rejoice for how lucky their were to have each other and the support of their friends and family.
Derek’s dad would of wanted exactly that, they said. It is a tradition that every child in Derek’s family gets photograph with his dad’s car on their wedding day! He and Derek restored it and he loved his car. He would take Derek’s mom out on a cruise and love feeling the warm wind when driving it.
And so we did just that.
Thank you Dana & Derek for your trust and to your family, you will always be my inspiration.
